Vintage Faith Church

An Emergent Church for an Emerging City...

Decatur, Alabama

Vintage Faith Church of Decatur, Alabama was birthed out of the idea that church should be more than entertainment and excellence for excellence sake. We wanted more, much more. We wanted to start over, to go back to the moments when Christ's teachings were fresh, to learn again what Christ meant when he said, "I will build my church." Because in America we are constantly being bombarded with marketing schemes and consumerism, and the last place we want to encounter this mentality is in the church.

At the heart of Vintage Faith is this sense of emerging from spiritual hollowness to search for God without all of the trappings of religious denominations. Because who wants to worship where everything is so perfect and fake? For this reason the Scripture verse below is our main creed. We recognize our need for God's grace through His Son Jesus Christ for the hope of eternal life. We embrace this need on Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM where we meet at the Hospice of the Valley redbrick building on Johnston Street.

Titus 3:3-7 - “At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, we might have the hope of eternal life.”

*Whatever similarities you may see between Dan Kimball's church and ours, comes from our reading of his book, The Emerging Church, which we loved. Now we're trying to get a similiar message out to our community, so go buy a copy of his book, and you'll see what we loved about it or go visit his website for more on the emerging church.

Another one of our influences is Charles Jefferson, pastor of the Broadway Tabernacle in New York City —1898 to 1937. He wrote the book, Building the Church, which is the Yale Lecture on Preaching given in 1910 . It's a vintage blueprint for revolution.
